Valentines Day Memories
January 27, 2025

Hi, this is Connie. I am going to share a few of my memories with you about what my husband did for me for Valentine’s Day. We were young and did not have a lot of money at first, not that we have a lot now though either by some people’s standards. I remember 1 time he let me sleep in (it was the weekend) and brought me breakfast in bed. It was a simple breakfast, toast and egg with a cup of coffee that was weak. It had a handwritten card that said Happy Valentine’s Day Love You. It was sweet because I always got up early to make his breakfast and send him off to work during the week. I know it was early for that year, but we could not afford anything special. So, on the day of Valentines, I sent some homemade chocolate chip cookies, and a handwritten love note to him for his lunch. He told me later when he got home, he was surprised, and it made his day. I know nowadays some think it is about money and how much you spend, but it is the thought that counts. It is the little things that a person does that mean so much. Like doing the dishes if you don’t normally do them, or helping put their coat on, or opening the door for them. Is it nice to get things? Yes, it is if it does not put you in a bind financially.

Then moving forward about 12 years I had been working at a sewing factory for 2 years our finances were a little better. We have 3 kids in school now and Valentine’s Day has come. Here I am working on the hem line and watching fellow workers getting flowers or candy from their boyfriends or husbands. I’m a practical person and knowing we have children and expenses I did not expect anything. I did admire the flowers my friends did get though. After the lunch hour I heard my name called over the speakers to come to the front office. I thought I hoped my son did not get in trouble at school or get hurt. Much to my surprise Tim had sent a single red rose for me. You know my eyes watered up and I cried right in front of the office worker. That was the first flower he had given me for Valentine’s Day. The office worker had told me you’re the first one to cry over the gift when so many had been getting half a dozen to a dozen roses. Then I explained how that was a first for us. Speaking of flowers, you can visit https://www.anrdoezrs.net/click-101243613-17000046 to get a deal for your sweetheart. This is the Teleflora store on our page.

Then about 4 years after that I came home from work on a Wednesday to a clean house. Tim’s job was Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, Friday at that time. He would pick the kids up from school and that day the house was clean, and supper was ready and when I got upstairs to our room there was a big box of chocolate on the bed waiting for me with a card on it. Of course, I shared the chocolate with the whole family. He is a sweetheart when he wants to be. Oh yeah, we have a Russell Stover store on our page too if you want to check out the bargains there. You probably wonder if I did things for him, yes, I did. One year I went to his job and tied balloons to the side windows of his truck and took a big balloon that had a teddy bear and chocolate hearts inside it. Then another time I made him breakfast in bed with biscuits and chocolate gravy, eggs and bacon with orange juice and coffee. Yes, we try to make each other feel special even if we don’t spend money, or if we do, but the secret is not to ‘break the bank’ or spend what you don’t have. Like my grandma always said, “stay within your means”.
